š©° Hobby Hoarders Anonymous š§©

Hi, Iām Sophie and Iām a hobby hoarder š As long as I can remember I wanted to know how things worked and how things are made. I wonāt even attempt to list every hobby or craft Iāve tried and then abandoned and then found my way back to try it yet again. There is definitely something to say here about ADHD and hyper-fixations. If you know, you know! š
Ā
āRather than feeling shame for these fleeting interests, I transform those negative emotions into an opportunity. Instead of asking āWhy do I keep trying new things and then never finishing them?ā The question I ask is āWhat did I learn from this side quest, and how can I apply those lessons to my main art practice?ā I love learning new things, just for the sake of learning. In other words, Iām a nerd.
Ā
š§ Every time you try something new or solve a problem, youāre creating fresh connections in your brain. Connections that expand your creativity, imagination and capacity for inspiration.
Ā
šø When I garden, Iām inspired by the textures, colors and all the bugs I see.
š® When Iām playing video games, I experience fantastical worlds that expand my imagination.
šŖ” When Iām sewing a dress, Iām exercising my ability to follow complex instructions and troubleshoot issues with my sewing machine. lol
Ā
šØ My art process continually grows and improves because when Iām feeling stuck, I give myself permission to step away and do literally anything else. Art blocks are just signs that you need an art break. Consider this your permission to try a new impulsive hobby guilt free!
